over mijn werk

mijn reis ging erheen

hoe hun grijze kleur
mooi afstak bij wat blauw daartussen
of andersom
en hun geluid was zo
dat je haast zou zeggen:
ze zingen

Ik reisde opgewekt verder
vooral toen een dag later
een dronken man mij zei
of andersom
en hun geluid was zo
dat je haast zou zeggen:
ze zingen

Kinderen en dronken mensen
zeggen de waarheid
de lezer en ik
wij weten nu beiden
de waarheid verschilt van kleur

about my work

The Turn

I find beauty in the way patterns unfold. In a flat surface that gradually expands into movement and relief. Waves emerge across the paper, carrying the rhythm of the lines with them.

Without a fixed destination or a predetermined route, I begin each drawing as an explorer. Using pen and ink, I let the work reveal itself through the act of drawing. My hand moves with both intention and hesitation, responding to what happens along the way. A mistake becomes an opening. A detour becomes a possibility. The process unfolds somewhere between order and chance.

Drawing reflects the fluid nature of thought as it moves in different directions. The image develops through repetition and variation, allowing unexpected forms and connections to appear. The transformation of initial ideas becomes a way of thinking about change and growth. The drawing does not end at the edge of the paper. Its creative potential continues in the mind of the viewer, inviting curiosity, reflection, and a sense of wonder.

  • Computer learns to listen for a bit.

A computer program is able to produce two eighth and two quarter notes in a three-quarter time, but it won’t sound too good. A human being will always add his own timing and put the notes slightly off-beat. We are looking for regularity and recognizable patterns, but we now can say that on those moments when regularity gets interupted, something unexpected happens and emotion evokes.

  • Paradoxes of Modernization.

More and more people are moving and emmigrate to places with jobs or better jobs for them. Especially to the cities with little or no social control. Because of this they loose their ties with their families and their past. They meet people who also come from all over. It is the rise of a type of men without characteristics, but with broad interests, free of predudices and able to deal with major changes. Modern individuals are no longer people all of a piece, but of many pieces. They are confronted with many, partly contradictory values. Depending on place, time and need they act according an appropriate mix of those values. Or do not act at all, because of lack of direction.

  • The Basic Problem.

The basic problem of mankind is that he is an animal that makes itself unnatural, but nevertheless keeps longing for nature as its place of origine.

To the Seaside (K. Schippers)

Twelve summer freckles I counted on the face
of the boy who told me something
about the colourful coastal town
I would see soon
I was travelling towards it

The trees overthere were very green
the sky full of peculiar birds
the beak somewhat too big for the tiny head
but that was rather charming
also to see
their gray colour
nicely sticking out against some blue in between
or the other way around
and their sound was like
you could almost say:
they are singing

I merrily travelled on
especially when the next day
a drunken man told me
that the coastal town
was worth the journey

The trees overthere were very green
and the sky full of peculiar birds
the beak somewhat too big for the tiny head
but that was rather charming
also to see
their gray colour
nicely sticking out against some purple in between
or the other way around
and their sound was like
you could almost say:
they are singing

Children and drunken people
tell the truth
the reader and I
we now both know
the truth varies in colour
